Knee surgery abroad unicondylar

condylar Kingdom (unicompartmental) knee replacement

Introduction

It simply means that only part of the knee joint is replaced through a small incision that would normally be used for total knee arthroplasty.

unicondylar knee replacements were performed since the early 1970s with mixed success. Over the past 25 years implant design, instrumentation and surgical technique have improved greatly which makes it a very effective method for unicompartmental arthritis. Recent advances allow us to do this through a small incision and is therefore not as traumatic to the recovery of the knee making it faster ...

Arthritis

Arthritis is a general term covering numerous conditions where the joint surface (cartilage) wears. The articular surface is covered with a smooth surface which allows joint movement without pain in the joint ....

In an arthritic knee

  • The cartilage lining is thinner than normal or completely absent. The degree of cartilage damage and inflammation varies with the type and stage of arthritis.
The capsule of the arthritic knee is swollen.

  • The common space is reduced and irregular in outline, which can be seen in X-ray image.

  • Bone spurs or excessive bone can also accumulate around the edges of the joint.

Diagnosis

The diagnosis of osteoarthritis is made on history, physical examination and X-rays
There is no blood test to diagnose Osteoarthritis (wear and tear, arthritis )....

Advantages and disadvantages

The following services are surgery relieving symptoms of arthritis. These include

Severe pain that limits your daily activities like walking, shopping, visiting friends and getting in and out of the chair, gardening, etc.

Disadvantages

Who is suitable and who is not?

  • Should ideally be over 50 years.
  • When pain and restricted mobility interferes with your lifestyle.
  • A compartment involved clinically and confirmed the X-ray .....

Pre-operating

  • Your surgeon will send routine blood tests, and any other investigations required prior to your surgery
  • We ask you to undertake a general medical examination with a doctor
  • You should have no other medical problems, surgical or dental attended before surgery ....

Surgery

Each individual knee and knee reflect a different size for your knee. If there is more than the usual amount of bone loss sometimes extra pieces of metal or bone are added.

The surgery is performed under sterile conditions in the operating room under spinal or general anesthesia. You're on your back and a tourniquet applied to your thigh to reduce.
