Stocking Anesthesia

Stocking AnesthesiaThe application of anesthesia to us by post: 2010

Economy and Health

Job losses caused by the recession direct impact on all doctors' incomes. When millions of people lose their jobs, they also lose their health insurance and doctors lose patients who can pay. Hopefully, the job loss is short-term withdrawal, but it affects the demand for services and income for the doctors immediately. This effect destroys the underlying projections of demand growth made a few years ago. Until the economy recovers and unemployment drops 10% to 4-5% range there is a big possibility that demand for all health care services based on optimistic assumptions by accident .

Shortage of anaesthesiologists

From 1995 the number of anesthetists graduates of residency programs decreased. According to the American Society of Anesthesiologists the number of graduates of American anesthesia residency 1547 decreased in 1995 to only 392 in 2000. During the same period, the number of anesthesiologists has increased by less than 9 percent, according to WADA. This compares to an increase of 13 per cent in the number of doctors in all specialties.

ACC

The rising cost of health care can significantly affect the demand for physician services. ACC, which can perform more routine tasks of physicians at a fraction of the cost, may be increasingly used. In addition, the demand for physician services is very sensitive to changes in reimbursement policies of health care. If changes in the wake of coverage of health costs out of pocket higher for consumers, they may require the services of doctors less.

In rural areas, CRNAs are anesthesia providers only about two-thirds of all hospitals. ACC is also the main provider of obstetric anesthesia in the United States.

Increased demand for anesthesia services

The National Center for Health Statistics inpatient surgeries States were flat between 1994 and 2000. While the number of anesthesia providers has remained relatively constant in recent years, surgical volumes have increased nationally, placing greater demand on providers of anesthesia services.

Bad economy and aging population

The recent collapse of the market is having a major impact on the decisions of older physicians of all specialties. Many doctors are postponing retirement for several years because of losses they suffered in their retirement accounts. However, even within a few years of retirement will not meet the increasing demands caused by the impending loss of experienced physicians. This delay has already resulted in a decrease in jobs and residents graduates not finding as many good opportunities as before. Some residents rather than engaging in less desirable full-time jobs are opting for jobs anesthesia locum.

Health Insurance Reform

The last question is the result of the reform of national health. Will changes at all. This debate has frozen the decision for many in health care. If the health care reform is really happening in the increase in enrollment in health insurance and long term, the aging population, and these figures should prompt increased demand for services and higher incomes . However, we do not know what will happen to Medicare reimbursement rates. Already there has been some decrease in the rate they pay in radiology that has a direct impact on this specialty. The issue is that there will be more rate cuts which will affect all specialties, including anesthesia.
