Precision Glide Needle Look, no hands! Dentists are now providing Clinical Painless If there is a place many of us fear to go, it's the dentist's chair. The sight of a large syringe to be injected into the sensitivity of the gums may bring tears to the eyes, even the best person to blood red. Fears about the dreaded needle, and the sight and sound of the drill are sharp enough to avoid many dentist that we are in considerable pain ourselves. Recent advances in dentistry, however, and the age old relaxation techniques have come a long way towards riding people of their phobia of the needle with the result that many patients are now left without dental clinics little or pain whatsoever. CHILD'S PLAY An English dentist has invented a technique known as photo-activated disinfection or PAD for attacking tooth decay. The method, popular in Australia and Japan, uses a special disinfectant, activated by a laser, to kill instead of drill bacteria. The tooth can then rebuild itself aided by a sealant and a porous foam tooth, which is used at home and promotes tooth growth. In the absence of injection, no drilling and no filling, no factor of "fear" and children who have more reason than most to visit and be afraid of the dentist, who would like the use of foam-flavored fruit on the teeth. THE STRIP Many dentists worldwide are now using an electronic injection device called "The Wand, a device controlled by computer, automatically" sense "the precise pressure and flow necessary for the administration of anesthetic. "The Wand" works by using a very fine needle, which is located near the gum, but before the needle touches the gum, a drop of anesthetic numbs the surface tissue. As the dentist slip the needle into the gum tissue just before the needle tip is numbed by anesthesia. Once the needle is fully inserted, the computer slowly releases a stream of anesthetic. There is no sudden prick or burning sensation. 82% of patients surveyed said "The Wand" is a process quite painless. LASERS BASED ON WATER Dentists in America are using hi-tech devices like laser as an alternative to anesthesia. Unlike other laser devices, laser tooth does not use heat and direct light, it uses water combined with air. The laser high pressure water numbs the nerves in the tooth as it cuts, eliminating the need for anesthesia. The laser sterilizes the tooth also, improving the binding of the stuffing. Lasers operate with better precision of a drill, making it easier to remove decay and treat specific areas of the tooth. Healing time is also faster, so that the risk of infection is greatly reduced. The procedure, depending on the patient is pain free. SURFACE ANESTHESIA This involves the use of an anesthetic on the surface of the tooth or gum in the form of aerosol, gel, ointment, or solution. Surface anesthesia is primarily used with minor pain procedures such as procedures for exploration, the treatment of abscesses and extraction of teeth in children. This technique can also be used to desensitize the point of needle insertion for the complexity of dental procedures. THE POWER OF THE MIND Many dentists today the formation of their patients in hypnodontics, a form of hypnosis to control and eliminate pain. Using techniques of deep relaxation, calming atmosphere and calm, reassuring dentist, the patient can learn to relieve their anxiety and reduce their stress levels. For particular people nervous, dentists sometimes practice deep relaxation techniques, in conjunction with nitrous oxide harmless "laughing gas".
