Paradigm Insulin Pump

Paradigm Insulin PumpIndian medical needs exposure to insulin pumps

diabetic population in India is around 400 million, and given an estimate of 14 percent of patients on insulin may be translated to 56 million patients treated with insulin in India. Of these 10 percent is less than 5.6 million patients are most likely to have high levels of glucose and uncontrolled diabetes coarsely. In addition, at least 5 percent of 2.3 million patients will not be a good control and are looking for options that may allow them to have a flexible lifestyle and still good control.

These are patients who need a better strategy for treatment with insulin. Such a strategy is available in India since last 6 years. It is known as the insulin pump, which is a small pager device companies, and this device can replace insulin as the pancreas.

In six years, the number of insulin pump users in India is estimated at 1500 which is too small. Since the pump is an expensive treatment if a limited number is expected to use it, but as compared to insulin treated population, the pump user population is too low indicates

According to Dr. Sunil M Jain endocrinologist, the cost factor does play a role, but in addition there are many other barriers to pump therapy India:

1. The lack of accurate information among health care providers
2. Self-test blood glucose is low
3. Myths about the pump
4. The non availability of paramedics taking care problemsConcept Pump health economics is missing
5. Many type 1 diabetics are not aware of its availability

Many patients think that the pump requires surgery. Although the pump is a device that can be carried in a pocket and a tube is attached to the skin and through the insulin reaches into our bodies. Many doctors do not know the menu pump, software and therefore they try to avoid prescribing pumps. Even if a physician is aware of the pump and its use, there is often no time to explain and demonstrate to patients. In India, it is necessary to train doctors and paramedical staff on the use of the pump. Once doctors are trained and able to mange the device so that the pump will increase use. In developed countries, nurses are often the patients on the pump and make the most of the management. But in India, patients are comfortable if the initial direction is performed by the medical monitoring of management by the wizard. Thus, for India, it is necessary to train doctors and paramedical staff and diabetes educators. It could change the paradigm of diabetes management and there may be a major change in the quality of life for all people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes on insulin regime MSI.
