As a firefighter, I can tell you that while on inspections of businesses when searching for first aid kits, so it is visible, all employees know where it is, it contains things like washing eyes and, sometimes, to use as a compress for severe bleeding, we're pretty happy.

Z308.1-1998 ANSI minimum requirements for aid kits Workplace

This American National Standard provides minimum requirements for workplace first aid kits. It contains requirements for interior and exterior kits.

The standard sizes of cases
Unit packaging and specifications for the items most commonly used, and the arrangement of first aid materials to facilitate the identification, removal and replacement.
The standard classifies kits Type I, Type II or Type II, as they are fixed, portable or mobile use outdoors.

The standard here is the minimum acceptable first-aid kits:

Absorbent compress
Plasters
Tape
antiseptic applications
Burn treatment applications
Sterile swabs
Medical Examination Gloves
Triangular Bandage

The standard gives specific dimensions, details, the number of units, etc., the acceptable minimum levels listed above.
