Insulin pump problems Medtronic Receive FDA warning:

Insulin pumps are miniature medical devices worn by diabetics who provide a service similar to insulin. The pumps replace traditional daily injections via a syringe or insulin pen. Many manufacturers of insulin pumps, but Medtronic has had serious setbacks in their manufacturing process. The FDA has issued a recall of Medtronic insulin pump after the company determined that approximately 60,000 used in infusion pumps were defective and caused an air pressure problem, could provide too much insulin, enough insulin, or no insulin at all. The FDA found a common cause of most deaths or injury was due to hypoglycemia and reported over 29 cases of car accidents related to insulin pump malfunction Medtronic. Patients lost consciousness or died during driving, and crashed into other vehicles, drove the road ends up in lakes, and even criticized in buildings at high speed. Medtronic issued a recall of about three million Medtronic insulin pumps to date, because of lack of air pressure.

 

Medtronic FDA Review for lack of quality control procedures:

The FDA also criticized the manufacturing processes of Medtronic, noting that the company had no proper quality control. The report mentions that Medtronic medical professional on the site, hired to determine if there were health problems with the unit, had only a high school diploma. The FDA was first discovered these deficiencies during an inspection in late 2008. The violations included failing to maintain procedures to control process to ensure that products conform to specifications, failure to provide accurate records for each lot, failing to assess and investigate consumer complaints and by failing to report problems where failures could cause serious injury or death. The FDA letter also criticized the company to take two years to recall the insulin pump after the company discovered some models lacked a key propellant. Medtronic initially identified this problem in May 2006 but did not recall the FDA or know the problem until May 2008.
