Hemoglobin Test

Hemoglobin TestDiabetes mellitus diagnostic test

High levels of glucose in the blood and later appear in the urine is known as diabetes mellitus. Thus, glucose is the most important test for a diabetic. Fasting blood glucose level test is the most common screening test for diagnosis of diabetes and prediabetes. It is usually ordered when someone has symptoms of diabetes or a person with high levels of risk factors for diabetes.

plasma glucose test at random
The random plasma glucose test measures the levels of plasma glucose at any time without fasting or not worry about what you ate. The glucose test may do so informally at any time, it is called as a casual plasma glucose test.

random plasma glucose testing is simply used for diabetes screening, if an abnormal result when diabetes is confirmed by fasting plasma glucose test or oral test for glucose tolerance.

Fasting plasma glucose test
According to the American Diabetes Association, a fasting blood glucose (fasting for about eight hours) or an oral test for glucose tolerance (OGTT) can be used to diagnose diabetes and prediabetes. But normally recommends the fasting glucose test, because it is easier, faster and less expensive to make compared to the glucose tolerance test orally.

Fasting plasma glucose test is done after 8-12 hours of fasting (do not eat or drink anything other than water). If an abnormal test, it is recommended to repeat this test on another day.

test oral glucose tolerance
OGTT test requires having a fasting plasma glucose, followed by consumption of a standard amount of glucose solution to "challenge" their system, followed by another test of plasma glucose 2 hours after glucose consumption. If an abnormal result, the test should be repeated on another day to confirm a diagnosis of diabetes.

glucose challenge test
Gestational diabetes is usually diagnosed using a glucose challenge test (GCT) as a screen, followed by OGTT if the test result is abnormal screen.

Diabetics must monitor their own levels of glucose in the blood, often several times a day, to what extent above or below their level of glucose, and based on the recommendation of their doctor. This is usually done by placing a drop of blood (obtained by pricking the skin with a lancet small) on a glucose strip and then inserting the strip into the glucose monitor, a small electronic machine that provides a digital display blood glucose level.

Glycated hemoglobin A1C
A1c (HbA1c also called glycosylated hemoglobin or glycated hemoglobin or HbA1c) is a test that is recommended several times annually to monitor patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. It is a measure of the average amount of glucose in the blood during the last 2-3 months, which helps the doctor to find how a treatment is effective in controlling the level of patient blood glucose over time.

Now, doctors recommend an A1C day even if you maintain your blood glucose near normal by glucose monitoring at home. Because he provide a mean value of glucose for 3 months.
