Sports injuries are inevitable when engaging in physically demanding or contact sports. So much so that there is a distinct branch of medicine dedicated entirely to the treatment of sports injuries and is called sports medicine. Even minor injuries can heal in a few days or weeks, may require major surgery. However, like any other surgery, the surgical treatment of sports injuries can be costly to the United States and other Western countries. But thanks to medical tourism, now, these treatments can be obtained at the best price.

Injuries are an inevitable part of playing any sport, be it tennis, squash, football, baseball, hockey, cycling, golf or any other. Like defeats do not stop an athlete to move on, physical injuries should not keep you from doing sport because there is almost always a way to treat injuries and even serious injury can now be treated at a affordable price through medical tourism.

Types of injuries

Sports injuries can range from bruises and muscle strains, fractures and head injuries. The most common injury in sports are:

  • ligament sprains and muscle strain

  • swollen muscles

  • The knee injury (torn meniscus, the knee of the rider or the syndrome of patellofemoral pain, knee rider problems of the articular surface, problems with the patella)

  • injury to the ligaments of the knee (torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), torn posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), torn medial collateral ligament (MCL))

  • shoulder injuries (rotator cuff, glenoid labrum tear)

  • tendons (Achilles tendon injury, the syndrome DeQuervain laundress or sprain or wrist of the mother)

  • The pain along the tibia (tibial periostitis)

  • Bone fractures (fractures of the scaphoid fracture of the hip)

  • Dislocations (shoulder, fingers, knees, wrists, elbows)

  • spine injuries (disc herniation, sciatica, spinal stenosis)

TREATMENT OPTIONS

To accelerate the process of holistic healing, it is important that the initial phase (inflammatory phase) of the lesion be minimized with the initial treatment. Treatment often starts with the rice (rest, ice, compression and elevation) scheme to relieve pain, reduce swelling and speed healing. Other possible treatments include pain relievers, keeping the injured area from moving, rehabilitation and sometimes surgery.

SURGICAL TREATMENT OF INJURIES

Surgery is recommended when more conservative methods of healing and physical therapy failed to relieve pain and restore normal function. Based on the location and extent of injury and evaluation by your doctor, the surgical approach used could be traditional or laparoscopic (keyhole).

The most common surgery to treat sports injuries are:

  • Knee replacement (total or partial)

  • ACL repair or reconstruction

  • Meniscectomy

  • The arthroscopic surgery (knee arthroscopy, shoulder arthroscopy, arthroscopic spine, wrist arthroscopy, arthroscopy of the ankle, hip arthroscopy)

  • surgery to repair tendon

  • Laminectomy or laminotomy

  • Discectomy or microdiscectomy

  • Surgical repair of bone fracture

  • Hip

  • Hip hemiarthroplasty.
