Gastrogard

GastrogardPain Management - new things to take into account?

People often ask questions about pain especially for horses with arthritis and problems with the two drugs are usually recommended Bute or BANAMINE. Inevitably, someone mentions Bute and BANAMINE and their link with stomach ulcers. Did you know that there is now fresh products on the market that can be used, are also equally effective and erase the need to use GASTROGARD to prevent ulcers?
As many of you know, my horse was made to merge his pastern arthrodesis and a plate and five screws in the leg. I got on Banamine GASTROGARD IV for 18 days and discontinued on New Year's Eve. It was a little sore since I had reviewed today stitches removed and so it is now Equioxx is an NSAID that does not pose a risk in respect of ulcers not need GASTROGARD. The price is high - $ 8 per tube instead of $ 35 to $ 50 GASTROGARD + for a bottle of Banamine or $ 25 for a tube of dough Banamine. My neighbor has a filly who had a fracture

Glad Slew's better!

I know that naproxen (Aleve) can also be used with horses, but I have no experience with it, and do not know the risk ulcer.

8 USD vs. more than $ 100 and an ulcer! It's great!

EDIT: Oh, and Lisa, remember when you plant a big wet on his nose, which goes straight to Rimmel joints. : P (* cache) My god I'm fighting this cold, I am slaphappy.

Happy scanning is better! Ten weeks left and then begins handwalking???? I love how people give free advice when you do not ask first. Let me know how Equioxx works for you. I've never used anything other than Bute and BANAMINE. I know they work, and I am guilty of not wanting to try something new.

EDIT * The bit Chiffney is the bomb:) hmmm .... would be a good question

I'm glad you had success with Equioxx, but I found with my mare and gelding she has nothing to feel their pain. They were miserable for 24 hours or more before the vet came back to re-evaluate. (The horse had an abscess.) I have the mare IM Banamine for the past week (for his suspect Cushings) with Gastro Guard. It is more comfortable, but not better at this point. I am concerned and would seek comments from the net. Glad to hear that your man is recovering.

I'm glad you found something to help your horse. Quite a long trip with surgery, screws and rehabilitation! I used my old MSM for horses, which have no active lesions only osteoarthritis.

You might consider flax oil fresh because the omega-3s are anti-inflammatory drugs in large and are required for all fabrics. I have not read <but save> a study on human tissue ligament healing faster when he had omega-3 fatty together.

I use turmeric for me and my dogs. I have not found if it is OK for horses. As I buy in bulk at health food store, it is pretty cheap. Turmeric is very healthy. A friend started taking it instead of NSAIDs because of the ulcer. It helps with aches and pains. There is a healing for the digestive tract and has anti-tumor actions. I do not know turmeric in horses or other grazing animals. http://www.mskcc.org/mskcc/html/69401.cf ...

If you use MSM, it is anti-inflammatory and get rid of ulcers in humans, it should be good, or horses, too, but it does thin the blood.

Another excellent substitute for Bute is devil's claw.

Good to know that there are alternatives.

Also very happy to learn that he does well.

Glad to hear that scanning is doing well. I asked myself.
