Disposable Suture Kits

Disposable Suture KitsInfection of the pleura: What is a drainage kit?

Infection of the pleura can sometimes lead to excess fluid or air accumulated in the pleural cavity. A chest drainage tube kit / is used to remove the accumulation of body and promote healing. To understand how a kit drainage works, it helps to have a picture of the mind's eye of the pleura and its purpose and pleural cavity in general.

The lungs are covered with a thin membrane called the pleura. The transparent membrane also lines the inside of the chest wall. The pleura is made of two layers of sheath that folds on itself. The layers of the pleura have a very thin space between them. The space is filled with pleural fluid. The pleura protects the lungs and chest cavity viruses and harmful bacteria and are therefore an obstacle to the disease.

The problem is that sometimes the pleura itself becomes irritated by bacteria or viruses. When this occurs, it can cause a pleural effusion, or a condition called pleurisy. Pleurisy usually the result of a certain type of lung infection, but may also follow in cases of lung cancer and other lung problems or following the inhalation of certain contaminants / pollutants.

Pleurisy causes an abnormal accumulation of air or fluid in the pleural cavity. The pleural cavity refers to the area that is located in the thoracic cavity (chest) and surrounds the lungs. The pain of the sensors are located in the lung pleura, inflammation of the membranes can cause mild to extreme pain, usually exacerbated by coughing or sneezing.

When the pleural cavity is filled with a liquid or air bubbles, air or liquid should be released to keep the lungs from collapsing. A kit drainage (drainage Pleurx Kit is an example) is used to help get this excess fluid or air out of the body and protect the lungs.

A drainage kit consists of a long tube (chest tube, also known as tube thoracotomy.) Tube is usually of a type of flexible plastic. The tube is inserted through the skin using a surgical procedure known as thoracotomy. The end of the tube rests inside the pleural cavity. A probe and / or the camera is sometimes inserted in the tube during surgery to ensure that the end of the tube was placed correctly so that drainage is effective.

The tube is then sutured to the surface of the skin surrounding the tube to keep moving. The entire area is covered with a sterile bandage to protect the wound against infection.

The kit also includes the drainage of an empty bottle. The other end of the tube is inserted into the chest of the empty bottle. This bottle is used to suck, vacuum or "suck" the excess liquid. The contents of the bottle are then disposed of as medical waste.

Kits drainage can come with empty bottles in various sizes. (For example, the drainage Pleurx kit has a bottle of 1000 ml. capacity.) Drainage kits usually come with items such as sterile bandages, gauze and alcohol wipes. Some, such as drainage Pleurx kit, including gloves and tongs.
