Do not know what to do for college? Culinary arts, dental assistant / hygienist, creative arts? I'll be a senior in high school next year and Im not quite sure what I want to do in college. I need something a little easy, cheap and fast because I am a teenage mother and want to start a career soon. Looking something like a technical school and a diploma for a good job. Some areas that interest me are the dental assistants or hygeniest, culinary arts, writing, photography, social worker, etc. .. Does anyone have advice for what would be the best? Also there grants or scholarships for teen mothers or something?
I try to keep an open mind to any career, I'm looking for something that will give me a good future.
Hello,
as a teen mother, I think it's better to put aside the studies that involve the arts such as photography, cooking and writing. I say this because if you have your needs and your baby really need a guaranteed wage now! Social work is not something cheap and quick. You must obtain a diploma four years and then get a master's degree in social work, which takes 2 years. It is absolutely necessary to be a social worker.
Jobs as medical assistant and dental assistant are good choices for now because the school is short and affordable and you'll make a decent wage. If you want a short training program to start working right away, you can look in Certified Nursing Assistant, which lasts only two months.
If you decide to take a dental assistant, you can go to college and continue with dental hygiene. The salary is large enough for work and schooling is only 2 years. Similar work is a radiology technologist or technician.
If you are looking at technical schools, there are many things to choose from: welding, auto mechanics, electrical, plumbing. These are all good jobs.
As for paying your tuition, you can ask for federal assistance and I am sure you will be eligible for grants and you may even receive some tuition refunds.
