Bathroom Safety Bars And Chairs

Bathroom Safety Bars And ChairsWhat is the problem about swimming and safety of the bathroom? Part IV -

Modern design has remained unchanged for many years

Review of bathtubs and showers available suggests that safety has never been the major problem in their design! Historically, the development of bathing facilities has been more by chance than design conscious. institutional facilities has changed significantly due to assisted bathing is very difficult for healthcare providers, but the design of common household bathtub / shower has remained virtually unchanged. The first bath known Minoan dynasty dates back to 1700 BC, and its shape is almost identical to the bath forms that are in use today. My mother tub, your bath is a bit like the Minoan bathtub, the only difference is ours are made of synthetic materials and have water flowing hot and cold. The showers are relatively new. In fact, the first showers were actually developed for medicinal purposes (eg, treatment of rainwater or bath) in the early 1800s. Rain is now common with the introduction of indoor plumbing. But the design of showers at home in America remained virtually unchanged since the end of the First World War!

There are many problems with current designs of bathtubs and showers.

Firstly, these products are outdated and do not meet the physical demands of the aging population. Adaptive devices and equipment are "Band-Aid" solutions to complex problems not met by showers and bathtubs. For example, the "collar-bar using" installed by my mother on the outside wall of the bathtub seemed like a good idea in theory but in practice has contributed to his death when he moved just enough to bring its downfall in motion. These features highlight deficiencies in the classical and unsolved problems. Grab bars are a bit of lack of adequate support and the need for greater physical security in the bath area. Bath Mat overcome the danger of sliding surface in their exact location, but they are potentially dangerous. They reflect the need for more secure footing. Bath seats are a reminder of the inability of people to keep up or lie down in a bathtub while bathing. They stress the need for other means of bathing and improved technology.

Secondly, bathtubs and showers are products of specific capacity. They are consistent only in functional abilities and physical needs of young, able-bodied people and the place of physical and mental demands on the elderly and disabled. For example, the positioning of controls and accessories often requires standing, bending, grasping and a broad range of movements. Bathtubs and showers require a good balance, flexibility and strength when both their use, and transferring in and out of them.

Third, the design of the bath / shower does not reflect a viewpoint life. Conceptually, such as children, we begin to swim on our own when we are 6-7 years. We continue to do as adults until we're about 50-60 years. Beyond that age, we begin to inherit dependency related equipment followed by dependence-oriented people and, finally, the dependence on both. Bathtubs and showers do not meet people's changing needs. They are not sensitive to adjustment than those functional abilities and physical conditions undergo changes related to age. For example, when unable to get up and bathe, people sit while bathing. This often takes the form of stool unstable and dangerous, benches, chairs, plastic garden, even, to be placed in tubs or showers. The loss of the scope of restrictions on the movement of a person makes controls and accessories inaccessible. Thus, for much of their lives, people bathe, or in hazardous conditions or they are dependent on aid.
