Aids For The Elderly

Aids For The ElderlyWhy not pay Medicare for hearing aids for the elderly?

I wrote two senators and received replies form did not answer this question. It seems to me, hearing loss, if the elderly not have the number one problem, it is pretty high on the list. quality hearing aids are expensive.
If Medicare will pay for motorized wheelchairs, why not at least pay part of the cost of hearing aids?

The outrageous price of hearing aids - have created this problem.

They could do for the price they charge for the iPod.

One thing I know - all I know deaf senior - refuses to use it once they get one. Waste a lot of money - when they wear them.

It is almost impossible to hold a conversation with them, but they refuse to wear them.

$ 4000 dollars is nothing contemptible.

DeeJay.

I leave to go vote, because there are several very good answers. The good one is probably true of my stepmother, she would probably end up not wearing it. Report Abuse

I must say it's a pretty gross generalization: "Every senior I am hearing - refuses to use them once they get it." Really? Have you ever seen someone in a grocery store or Anyway this issue with a hearing aid in the ear? You do not get out much. Report Abuse

I am quite. The state of the art-AIDS in the thousands of dollars. Right now I am an aging, retired pay through the nose above. I have 6 more years before I could even be eligible for Medicare.

Hearing aid manufacturers have enough lobbyists.

There are many things that Medicare does not pay for, such as prescriptions. They do not pay for dental care, eyeglasses, batteries for motorized wheelchairs. They must stop somewhere.

I guess they do not feel that seniors need to hear anything. They do not pay for eyeglasses or dental care.

I need hearing aids, but they cost about $ 4,000.00 which cost me dearly. Maybe a miracle will occur and my hearing is restored. Poppy

HA! Wait and see after Obama gets his "free healthcare" for everyone passed. He has already said Medicare & Medicaid benefits will be reduced.

health or dental or eyeglasses, or mental

I live in the United Kingdom and obtained a digital hearing aid for free, courtesy of the National Health Service - a wonderful institution.

I don `t know why but they certainly should. I went for a long period starting when I was young. Do they realize what it's like to go through life saying, Huh, what you say and not them telling you, or even later?
You do not need to buy more expensive with all the bells and whistles that eat batteries. I tried 7 different types and regained the most common type.
To listen a little better than nothing to hear.
To be able to see is the most important factor.

They do not want you to hear what Mr. Obama wants to make health insurance and seniors in his view, are too old for medical procedures.

Medicare is an expensive program continue and it can not cover everything ... it does not cover the overall vision (except for cataract surgery) does not cover dental care (unless it requires surgery), and does not cover hearing aids (at least that the person needs an operation). I kept hearing on TV about the scooter store that says "if it rejects your application for insurance for a wheelchair so we provide you to" free.
